HEMINGS IN PARIS

Hemings in Paris follows Sally Hemings for a day in the city where she spent two years of her life, and where her relationship with Jefferson began. Hemings’ struggle to understand what freedom means, then and now, is brought into focus by the voices of Paris’ contemporary black diaspora. The project aims to activate public space and dialogue, challenge historical authority, and collapse experiences (Williamson’s along with Hemings’), providing insight not only into how history is understood today, but how it is felt.
